The band Champaign got its
name from its home city of Champaign, IL. The group was an interracial
septet which comprised of singers Rena Jones and
Pauli
Carman, keyboardists Michael Day and Dana Walden, guitarist Howard
Reeder, bassist Michael Reed, and percussionist Rocky Maffitt. They
hit a commercial peak with their 1981 debut album, How 'Bout Us, whose
title track was a hit single. Follow-ups included Modern heart and
Woman in flames, featuring the R&B top 10 hit Off and on love.
