Born in Los Angeles & cousin of vocalist
Pebbles.
When she moved to Detroit in 1979, she was discovered by vocalist/bassist
Michael Henderson where she began to work with Jimmy Jam Harris, Terry
Lewis and Monte Moir. With her first album Fragile from 1984 she scored
at once with the single I didn't mean to turn you on. Working with
TABU and Flyte Time Prod. A collaboration with Alexander O'Neal was
established. The songs Saturday love, Never knew love like this and
many others are to listen on both their albums. The album Affair took
a whole year, because the songs were reflecting what was happening
with her. Cherrelle just started with her ex-husband Randy Ran and
best friend Mary Smettler to write the songs Crazy which was probably
the toughest, because she was crying the whole way through. After
her relationship with Randy Ran (also memember of the Flyte Time staff)
was ended , Cherrelle teamed with Narada Michael Walden for The woman
I am. After 8 years she also released The right time.
